Anasazi Granary on Aztec Butte
This 1000 year old granary was used by the Ancestral Pueblans or Anasazi to store maize. It is tucked up under an alcove below the top rim of Aztec Butte on the edge of a deep canyon in Canyonlands N.P. This photo is only possible about 2 weeks of the year because the shadow of the nearer arch falls directly on the ruin at sunset most of the year.
Sadly this ruin collapsed in April 2008, either from the ravages of time or from unthinking visitors trying to climb inside. Entering these ancient ruins is illegal, but every time I'd visited this particular ruin, there were new tennis shoe prints inside.
